Loading the Kiln
Working on custom orders right now. This doll is going in for a high temperature firing, which is when porcelain slip vitrifies into glass and shrinks 20%. During vitrification porcelain softens into goo and sags, which is why the parts must NEVER touch each other, or they will fuse together into misshapen mutant Cronenberg creations.
I’m using fibre glass prop to support the parts during firing and keep them from deforming and sagging, although it doesn’t always help, thanks to the fickle fire gods. Despite years of experience, there is an element of luck in every firing. I can’t wait to open this kiln after every firing to see if all the parts worked out. 🤞🏻
